Betting on teams: match markets, outrights and your own side
Betting on a team covers single matches, from the match winner to totals, and outright bets on who wins a league or tournament.
Many bettors back the team they support. Here we look at the markets and at why loyalty and value rarely point the same way.
- Odds 2.60
- 38.5% implied probability
- Outrights
- Higher margin many outcomes
- Stake tied up
- Until the end outright bets
- Age limit
- 18+ at every bookmaker we list
Short answer
How do you bet on a team?
For one match, the match winner is the simplest market. For a season or tournament, outright bets cover the whole competition, at a higher margin and with the stake locked until the end.
Examples
Team markets in a T20
-
Match winner
Bangladesh or India, two outcomes.
-
Team total runs
Over or under a line set for one side's innings.
-
Outright winner
A bet on the tournament winner. Every team in the event is an outcome, so the margin is spread across many prices.

How to read the table
Yellow marks the best price per outcome. The margin shows how much each bookmaker keeps on average: green is lowest, red highest.
What it means: in this example the dearest bookmaker costs ৳18 more per ৳1,000 staked than the cheapest.
Glossary
Glossary
- Moneyline
- The US name for a match-winner bet. So what: in cricket it is the two-way match winner.
- Handicap
- A head start of runs, goals or points given to one side. So what: it turns an uneven match into a close-to-even price.
- Over/under
- A bet on whether a total, such as runs, ends above or below a line. So what: you bet on the number, not on who wins.
- Margin
- The share of all stakes a bookmaker keeps on average, built into the odds. So what: a lower margin means more of your stake comes back over time.
FAQ
What markets can I bet on for a team?
Match winner, handicaps, totals such as runs or goals, player markets and outright bets on a tournament or league winner.
What is an outright bet?
A bet on who wins a competition, placed before or during it. The stake is tied up until the end, often for weeks.
Should I bet on my own team?
Fans tend to overrate their team. If you do bet on your side, check whether the price beats your honest estimate of the chance.
How do outright odds work?
They cover many teams, so the margin is spread across many prices and is usually higher than on a single match.
Is online betting legal in Bangladesh?
No. The Gambling Prevention Act 2026, passed on 1 July 2026, replaced the Public Gambling Act 1867 and makes online gambling and online betting offences, with prison terms of up to five and seven years respectively, or fines, or both. A bookmaker's foreign licence does not change this. See our responsible gambling page.
